Jean Tran Thanh Van receives Tate medal
(Newsline) – I was thrilled to learn that the American Institute of Physics had awarded the Tate Medal for 2011 to Jean Trân Thanh Vân. Tran epitomises global science, and both physics (especially high-energy physics) and his native country of Vietnam are greatly indebted to him for his dedication to bringing leading physicists from around the world together, even when political realities created major obstacles. He was honoured at the annual award ceremony of the American Physical Society during their April meeting in Atlanta. The inventor of the “Rencontres”
(CERN Bulletin) – Jean Trân Thanh Vân is the founding father of the “Rencontres de Moriond”, one of the most widely anticipated annual physics conferences throughout the world. Important results are presented every year. After Moriond, Jean Trân Thanh Vân went on to set up the “Rencontres de Blois”, then the “Rencontres du Vietnam” in the country from which he originates. International physicists forge closer links
(VNS) – International scientists from 19 countries said that they were enthusiastic to share knowledge and establish closer links through a five-day conference on gravitation, astrophysics and cosmology, which opened in the central city of Quy Nhon yesterday.
